super sunday

Super Sunday, an almost national holiday in america is fast approaching. This weekend, the NFL picked its to champions from its respective conferences. The Giants on New York will represent the NFC and the New England Patriots the AFC.

This game is interesting because of the historical match up. The Patriots will be coming into the game with a bit of a chip on their shoulder, because in 2007 the Giants ruined the Patriots perfect season.

The history of both the franchises is interesting aswell

The New England Patriots debuted in the AFL in 1959. Boston business man Billy Sullivan was the owner of the 8th franchise in the new American Football League. After  team name ideas were submitted by locals, the Boston Patriots was picked. This name provided a historical back ground, given Boston enrollment in the American Revolution. The orignal logo of Pat the Patriot was drawn up by Boston Globe Artist Phill Bissel.

Besides Gillete and Foxboro, the Patriots also called, Harvard Stadium and Fenway Park home.

The Giants  were established in 1925 and are the only one of the 5 teams that joined the league  that year no linger exist. To avoid being confused with the NY Giants Baseaball team, the team was orgioanly named the New York National Football League Company” and then became the New York Football Giants in 1929, which contuines to be their legal name

The Giants have also had their share of  home playing fields. The “G-men” played in the Polo Grounds, Yankee Stadium, The Yale Bowl, and now the New MetLife Stadium.
